How to Uninstall unused programs to speed up your computer
Over time we tend to install various programs that have been recommended to us or ones we thought might be useful at the time but for some reason we haven't used it or it did not do what we needed it for or many other reasons these programs end up being stored on our hard drive and in our registry system. After a while we tend to collect large amounts of these unused programs and our computer starts to slow down.Every time windows has to check the registry for a program we want to use it has to search through all these to find the one it needs.Apart from slowing our system down these programs start to use up space on our hard drive that could be used for storing more useful information. For those who don't know already these programs can usualy be easily removed from our computer.
Lets start by going into the start menu and click on all programs.
Now take note or write down a list of the ones you never use ,as you make the list make a note of those that have their own UN-installers.(check this by left clicking on each one to reveal a sub menu) .Now that we have our list we can start removing those that have their own uninstaller by clicking on the uninstall button in the drop down menu in the program menu. Most of them will easily uninstall. Some programs may require a system restart or re-boot to finish uninstalling. If you have a lot of programs to uninstall you can choose to restart your computer later after each one is uninstalled then let it do the restart after they are all removed. After your computer has restarted we can finish removing those that do not have an uninstaller.
Click on start >then go into control panel in windows xp and below you need to look for add remove programs. In windows vista and above you need to look for Programs and Features.Click on this> depending on your operating system and a new window will appear with a list of the programs installed on your computer.Simply read down the list comparing it with the one we made of our unwanted programs when you find one you wish to remove click on it to high light it then look at the top of the screen for a menu bar and there should be an option to remove or repair the program. Click on remove and follow the on screen prompts usually windows uninstaller will take over and do it automatically after asking you if you realy wish to do this.Windows defender on some computers may also want you to confirm the action just click yes or OK and it will begin uninstalling.
Once it is finished uninstalling you can move on to the next one,It may also want to do a restart after each un-installation but like before just click restart later until they are all removed then do the restart. After you have done the last restart it is also good practice to let windows do a defrag.
Some times we try to delete these programs but they either didn't come with an uninstaller program or our windows uninstaller cant remove them.If this happens to you dont panic as there is still another way to remove these programs with out having to manually search for all the files and folders. There are aftermarket programs like the one in the link below which will remove them for you and can also be used for normal removal operations.Click the orange links below for more information on these products.
